I love creating one-of-a-kind pieces that reflect the beauty of nature. In making jewelry, I use natural materials predominately, the combinations almost forming themselves. Classic design, a harmonious feel, and a timeless elegance are key cornerstones of my designs.
I have been involved in creative activities all my life. Starting with dancing ballet for many years while growing up, I have continued be involved in many different kinds of dance over the years. In my watercolor painting, I loved the botanical style, focusing on the precise way flowers and plants grow. I am continually amazed at what nature provides; such an array of colors, textures, the diversity of shells, wood, and stones, and all manner of growing things. We should glory in all of its products.
In my prior life as a teacher for 20 years, one of my favorite subjects was science. I loved to learn about the earth we live on, and earth science was one of my favorite things to teach. I have traveled and camped all over the United States, seeing for myself the geology and vegetation of different areas. I recently retired to the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains in California and my studio looks out on 2 ½ acres of woods.
Jewelry reflects our image of ourselves, our uniqueness, and enhances it. Jewelry is not just for adornment but can be enriching. Choosing materials, textures, and colors that we are drawn to is empowering. It should flatter us also. Jewelry has memories; pieces that we buy while on a trip for instance, will always have a connection with a specific place and experience. Jewelry that a woman chooses for herself will resonate with who she is at that time. That is why it hard to get rid of old jewelry and why inherited pieces are treasured. VenusRose Designs are timeless in their appeal, unique, and lovingly made by hand. I hope you enjoy what I’ve created.
I currently have a number of pieces in 2 shops locally, My Girlfriend's Closet in Paradise and Artisan's Galleria in Chico, follow the links on the Welcome page to see more about the shops. I belong to Chico Art Center and ChiVAA, Chico Visual Arts Alliance.
